I use a hauppauge 950q which works very well with Windows Media Focal point.
Their own software sucks huge titties and most likely since they are a foreign company.
My issue is really with WMC since it gets a few channels and just has sound with no video or blank screen.
You can use other codecs for WMP but media focal point tuner is locked in and probably mixed with their bullshit DRM and play ready crap. Hint, Basic analog cable doesn’t use play ready as far as I know. My TV plays it have a supply of.

    pfft…cable card systems…

…it’s so damn rare to see those in my area, nor are they worth it.

  4. HillOrStream says:

And with cable cards you give up all interactive features, like on-demand video.

  5. ucws says:

Problem with the card,Time warner cable has switch dig, so you will have to use a dig turner box with the cable card, thats if the computer card will let it work with the computer…I know tivo will use the dig tuner box.

Fuzzy hand and Dickhead here have mastered the new technology age we live in!! See neither is in a wedding band? That’s since pay for ass call girls don’t often marry clients. To become this geek-o-fied you must spend way too much time staring at monitors in mom’s basement! Thus, the only chics that will drop by, and tip-toe thru the kitchen, are call girls. Now…here is the question they should have discussed – Pay for pussy or free, real excellent tail? oh well…excellent luck fuzzy n head!!

In Australia, the cable companies change their security firmware every couple of months which bricks 3rd party cable cards/STBs. Since of this, nobody even bothers selling 3rd party PVRs. TiVo only works with network TV!

I did this and its worth every penny. I built a high end HTPC (in my videos) and use xbox 360′s as extenders. Its incredible.

thats fine in dandy but if your like me in Canada you have no choice but to get your cable providers Digital or HD boxes cause you can’t get said content without it! And FYI there is no cable card based systoles in Canada and last i checked cable cards never really got caught on in the U.S t On top of Windows Media focal point is as only excellent as the system it’s running on

Two reasons for water cooling in an HTPC: super high resolution on a huge screen a water cooled graphics card is going to work much surpass and yes gaming of course and water cooling for silent operation.

  14. E11VeNE says:

@cfcreative1 … no reason for a water cooled HTPC enless you play games on it or just had the parts laying around.

  15. SnakePlisskenPMW says:

the real trick is…. biulding a device that will depict a simliar discription screen for basic cable channels… like the comcast exsfinity cable box… then once this is done… we would allocate a option to be brought up allowing acsess to content on a HOME NAS or server

  16. cfcreative1 says:

Have a look at my water cooled HTPC
